How We Coach

Good coaching is the difference between rowing for years and rowing well for years. It’s the thing we spend the most on and the thing we’re least willing to compromise.

  • Small groups, real attention. Our camps and clinics are capped so coaches can work with every rower individually rather than address a group.
  • We film you. Video is standard in our performance coaching, not an add-on. You watch your own rowing back with a coach next to you, because seeing it is faster than being told about it.
  • Feedback you can act on tomorrow. Not “lengthen your stroke”. What’s causing it, what to change, and how to know when it’s working.
  • We coach masters properly. Masters rowers are a large part of our program, and our coaches work with them through the year rather than fitting them around a school season.
  • Our coaches are coached too. Rowing coaching is a craft, and ours learn from some of the most experienced coaches in the country, so the whole team keeps getting better.
  • Beginners get real coaches too. Our coaching team works across the whole pathway, from Learn to Row through to performance. Someone who has never held an oar is coached properly, not parked.
  • The best water in the country. Lake Burley Griffin is home to the National Training Centre for Australia’s Olympic rowing team, and our coaches have spent their careers on it.

Our rowing coaches

Between them, our coaches have coached Olympic and world championship medallists, led Australia’s women’s rowing program, developed state champions, and built youth and masters squads from nothing. They also spend their mornings teaching people who have never held an oar.
