FAQs

Memberships & passes

What is a Red Shedder Membership?

One membership for the whole shed. Your tier gives you a weekly allowance of sessions to use across rowing, the gym and recovery, in any mix, plus automatic Red Shedder benefits like complimentary Resets and member events. Tiers are Copper $35, Bronze $55, Silver $69, Gold $99 and Platinum $119 per week, with a 12-week minimum term. For recovery only, there is also a dedicated Recovery membership at $45 per week.

What is the Starter Pack?

The Starter Pack is 3 sessions for $30, valid 30 days, across rowing, gym or recovery. It’s a taste of Red Shedder membership life, not a program.

Do you offer a free trial?

We do not run a free trial. The Starter Pack, 3 sessions for $30 valid 30 days, is the way to try Red Shed across rowing, the gym or recovery. Any older mention of free trial passes or two free visits is out of date.

Do I have to hold a membership to visit?

No. Casual visits and 10-packs are available, and Easy Oar Cafe, Resets and community events are open to everyone. See casual visits & 10-packs.

Is there a BMRC option?

Yes. If you row competitively, Black Mountain Rowing Club (BMRC) operates at Red Shed. A BMRC Partner option connects club membership with facility access. Ask us and we’ll point you the right way.

Can I get a membership refund?

Refunds and cancellations follow our published terms and conditions. See Terms & Conditions or ask us at info@redshed.org.au.

Booking & sessions

How do I book?

Everything is booked through Mindbody, including rowing, gym and recovery sessions and our programs. Set yourself up once and book whatever suits your week. Step by step help, including child profiles, waitlists and cancellations, is on our booking help page.

Do I need to book, or can I just turn up?

Book. Every coached rowing session, gym class and recovery session is booked in Mindbody and places are capped, so book ahead rather than turning up. Using the showers and facilities does not need a booking.

How do I book a rowing session on the Starter Pack?

Rowing on the Starter Pack requires prior rowing experience or a completed Learn to Row. If you’re brand new to rowing, start with Learn to Row first.

I’m not a rower. Can I still join?

Absolutely. Plenty of Red Shedders come for the gym, recovery and community and never pick up an oar, and Learn to Row runs all year if you’d like to try.

Facility & hours

What are the opening hours?

The Red Shed facility is open to Red Shedders 5am to 8pm daily. Rowing and gym sessions run per the Mindbody timetable. Showers and facilities are available 5am to 8pm daily with no booking needed, for Red Shedders and booked visitors only, not for general public use. Recovery runs 5am to 8pm daily with a booking. Casual recovery visits (no fob) are 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. Easy Oar Cafe is 7am to 2pm daily and open to everyone. Full guide.

What is fob access?

Red Shedders and 10-pack holders get a fob for access any time 5am to 8pm daily. Casual visitors without a fob can come in 9am to 5pm on weekdays.

Where are you, and is there parking?

45 John Cardiff Close, Acton ACT 2601, on Black Mountain Peninsula. Free parking is available. The peninsula gate closes, so please leave before closing time.

Rowing programs

What programs do you run?

Coaching is provided for every Red Shed program. Options run from Learn to Row through to high performance, plus youth, school holiday, social, corporate and tourism rowing. See Row.

Which program is right for me?

If you’re new, start with Learn to Row. From there, Continue to Row helps you keep going, and performance programs are there when you want to push further. Not sure? Email info@redshed.org.au.

How old do you have to be to row?

Adult rowing programs are 18 and over. Youth rowing runs across school years 7 to 12, and coached juniors can start from age 8. Masters rowing is 50 and over. If someone sits just outside one of these, email info@redshed.org.au and we will talk it through.

Do you offer private coaching?

Yes. Private rowing coaching runs by appointment, 90 minutes a session, and it suits everyone from beginner to advanced, solo or as a crew of up to eight. Prices start at $150 and depend on the coach, the boat, the number of people and when you row. Peak times and weekends may be priced differently. Use our boats, or bring your own if you want coaching in the boat you regularly row in. If you need to store a boat with us, ask first. Email privates@redshed.org.au first so we can match you with the right coach and time. See Private Coaching.

Can I store my boat at Red Shed?

No. We do not offer permanent storage for private boats, kayaks or paddleboards. Black Mountain Rowing Club operates at Red Shed and is the place to ask about racking, so try BMRC directly. If you are coming for private coaching and need somewhere for your boat during your visit, that is a separate thing. Contact us first.

Can I race for Red Shed?

Red Shed doesn’t enter crews at regattas. Rowers who want to race do it through a club, and Black Mountain Rowing Club is where most of ours go.

Gym programs

Is RSX Strength Club the same as the gym?

Yes. RSX Strength Club is the name of our gym at Red Shed. Everything gym related sits under it, from coached classes and strength programming to Masters Strength and Youth Strength.

How old do you have to be to use the gym?

RSX Strength Club is 16 and over, though the sessions are pitched at adults. Red Shed Resets are also 16 and over. Younger athletes train in Youth Strength, which runs for school years 7 to 12 with a coach.

Do I need an induction before I use the gym?

It is not compulsory, but we recommend starting with a Welcome Session. It is on the timetable, it runs you through the equipment and how our sessions work, and it makes the first few weeks much easier. Book it in Mindbody.

Easy Oar Cafe

Do you take bookings at the cafe?

Not yet taking bookings. Walk-ins welcome. Easy Oar Cafe is open 7am to 2pm daily and open to everyone, not just Red Shedders.

Can you cater for allergies and dietary requirements?

Please inform us if you have a food allergy. Tell the team before you order and they will confirm what can be accommodated. The menu marks nut free, gluten free, egg free, dairy free, vegetarian and vegan options, though modifications may not be available for all menu items.

Support & community

How can I support Red Shed?

Red Shed is a not-for-profit built to make rowing, movement and wellbeing possible for everyone, and it exists thanks to private donations. Donations are fully tax deductible through the Australian Sports Foundation. For donations, sponsorship or partnership, email info@redshed.org.au. Support Red Shed.

Can I volunteer?

Yes, and we’d love the help. From events to Golden Oar to rowing programs, there’s a role for you. Volunteer.
