The Red Shed Scholarship

The Red Shed Scholarship helps young rowers keep rowing when cost would otherwise decide it for them. It is funded by donations to Red Shed, and it sits inside our youth pathway rather than beside it.

What it covers

There are several levels of scholarship, covering some or all of a rower’s program costs. Depending on the level, support can also extend to regatta costs and access to the gym for additional training.

What we ask in return

Every scholarship comes with a commitment to give some time back to the Red Shed community. That is deliberate. It keeps the scholarship a two way thing, and it gives recipients coaching experience and hours towards a boat licence, which are worth having well beyond their own rowing.

How rowers are selected

Scholarships are not an open application. Recipients are selected through the youth pathway, usually from rowers already training in Youth Squad or Youth Elite. Rowers who come through Talent ID and continue into competition may also become eligible.

If you are not sure whether your rower is in view, talk to one of our coaches or email rowing@redshed.org.au.

Good to know

  • Funded by donations to Red Shed, not by program fees
  • Several levels, covering some or all program costs
  • Not an open application, recipients are selected through the pathway
  • Each scholarship includes a commitment to give time back
  • Recipients gain coaching experience and hours towards a boat licence

How it is funded

The scholarship runs entirely on donations. Red Shed is a not for profit, and every dollar given to the scholarship goes to a young rower’s program costs.

We are always open to a conversation with anyone who wants to help it grow, whether that is a one off gift or something ongoing.

You can also back Red Shed more broadly through Friends of Red Shed.
