Learn to Row is a vital program at Red Shed, serving as the gateway for introducing new members to the sport of rowing. By focusing on the fundamental skills and technique, the program ensures that participants have a solid foundation to build upon as they progress in their rowing journey.
Participants start in Learn to Row I and can progress into Learn to Row II before entering Continue to Row programs.

Introduce participants to the basic technique and terminology used in rowing, covering essential elements such as body positioning, stroke mechanics, and boat handling.

Offer hands-on practice and coaching on the water, allowing participants to apply their newly acquired skills in a real-world setting and gain confidence in their abilities.

Incorporate off-water exercises and training methods, such as ergometer workouts and strength training, to enhance overall fitness and rowing performance.

Educate participants on the proper use and maintenance of rowing equipment, as well as the importance of adhering to safety guidelines and protocols.

Encourage participants to connect with fellow rowers, fostering a sense of camaraderie and belonging within the rowing community.

Focus on the specific skills required for sweep oared (one oar) rowing and sculling (two oar) providing participants with the necessary knowledge and practice to succeed in these disciplines.

Upon completion of the program, provide participants with information on additional rowing opportunities and programs available at the Red Shed, enabling them to continue developing their skills and passion for the sport.
